Zero Beginner Mistakes Joseph Vero builds drones. And folding knives. And – because apparently neither of those was complicated enough – a custom electric motorcycle. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Florida Atlantic University and years of independent design work across multiple disciplines, one thing becomes obvious very quickly: the man does not sit still. And you can feel that energy in his products. The Nova is Joseph’s very first folder design with a dropoint blade. If you’re thinking “first attempt, let’s see how it goes” – understandable, but completely wrong. What happened between the first sketches and the finished knife was classic Vero Engineering: drawings, CAD models, 3D-printed prototypes, more drawings, sleepless nights, and eventually a knife that feels like every single detail was checked twice. Which, for a mechanical engineer, is honestly not surprising. The Nova was produced in collaboration with Bestech – the same manufacturer behind the Heidi Blacksmith Heidi #1. Meaning: Vero’s construction philosophy meets manufacturing quality that no longer needs an introduction. The titanium framelock locks up rock solid, the front flipper running on ceramic bearings deploys exactly as it should, and the CPM MagnaCut blade – 9.2 cm drop point with a high flat grind – cuts like someone set out to design the ideal everyday blade. At 21.1 cm overall length and 162 g, this is intentionally not a small knife. Instead, it gives you plenty of handle to work with and a very secure feel in hand. A nice detail: the integrated lanyard hole in the backspacer is the first one ever featured on a Vero design. Sounds minor – but it’s exactly the difference between “thought through from the start” and “added later because someone asked for it.”

The blade in 14C28N is finely and thinly ground, which makes it a precise slicer rather than a coarse workhorse. You can have it either as a classic drop point (8.4 cm) or as a more modern talon with a sheepsfoot profile (8.1 cm). It opens via the thumb hole or the front flipper and is secured by a crossbar lock that snaps in precisely, with no play. At around 119 g and 19.6 cm of open length, the Aura is pleasantly light for daily use – a Vero Engineering knife for anyone who wants to carry the brand in an easygoing, everyday way.

First of all, this knife won the “Best Factory Folder 2024” award at the Blade Show in Texas, which is quite a statement considering the competition.  The Lux is Joseph Vero's clearest and most distinct design to date. Here, the knife has been reduced to the essentials, leaving an incredibly elegant and slim line. You could almost call it an XXL gentleman's folder.  On the show side, it is above all the hollow-ground (never before seen at Vero) drop point blade made of M390 steel, which is particularly elegant with a long swedge. The rather neutrally shaped handle with its two titanium scales offers a fantastic grip and is remarkably light, especially when closed. Despite its considerable length of 22 cm, the Lux weighs just 107 grams. This was made possible by elaborate hexagonal milling of the inside of the handle scales.
