The iconic shape of the knife is particularly suitable for pulling cuts due to the shape of the blade and was therefore particularly popular in seafaring to cut ropes or lines. But it's also great for greasing a sandwich: simply use the bulbous, curved back of the blade - the next picnic is sure to come! The spring of the slipjoint has a fixed tension and ensures that the knife does not accidentally fold while you are working. You can recognize the anchor knife from afar by the large anchor on the handle scales: this is a hand-adjusted brass inlay that takes on a beautiful, dark patina over time.

The classic Mercator knife is certainly one of the oldest multifunctional knife concepts that is still being built more or less unchanged today. The new version now has a handle body made of brass, which gives the knife a completely new look. KnifeLounge X Otter Knife
After the first two KnifeLounge Exclusive knives were a huge success, the next collaboration is now in the starting blocks. Otter knives from Solingen have outdone themselves and created their model York for us in an exclusive run with Micarta handle scales. We are incredibly pleased that this collaboration has worked out, and it is a very great honor to be able to work with one of the oldest German manufacturers in the field of pocket knives.
The York
Small, slim and handy - that's how Otter knives describe their model York itself. Well, that's true, but still the York is much more than just a compact pocket knife. First of all, there is the exceptionally shaped blade made of very rust-resistant 440C steel. Thanks to the low thickness of only 2mm, the blade tapers to a needle fine point, so that you can handle even the finest cutting tasks without any problems. Whether in use as an all-round knife in your pocket or as a knife for your next visit to the steakhouse, is of course entirely up to you. The handle is shaped to provide a secure yet universal grip. A special feature of the York is that it is not a fully riveted construction. Thanks to the included tool, you can adjust the knife's axle screw in case some blade play sets in after long use. Of course, the iconic Otter logo on the axle screw should not be missing. To prevent the knife from accidentally folding during use, the York has a slipjoint spring that provides enough grip but won't break your fingernails when you open it with a nail biter.
KnifeLounge Exclusive
So what's so exclusive about this version of the York? Otter have taken an interesting step here and for the first time in their company history have made a pocket knife with handle scales made of Micarta. For a modern look and that extra bit of grip, the entire handle has been bead blasted to create a matte finish on both the micarta and the back spring. The textile fibers of the micarta take on a beautiful and, above all, very personal patina over time - making your York a true one-of-a-kind. If the used look is too much for you, you can easily restore the knife to its original condition with a little warm water and a dab of hand soap.

Otter Mercator Knife
A piece of knife history
Built for over 140 years

Stainless 1.4043 steel
Well-tried and still greatThe Otter Mercator is an absolute legend among pocket knives. Also known as the "K55K" or "Black Cat Knive", the Mercator gained international fame especially after World War II when American GIs brought the folding knives back to the US from Germany.
However, the knife - which we now know as the "Mercator" - has been manufactured since imperial times in the late 19th century and was also used by soldiers in the German Army during World War I. Since then, it has been manufactured unchanged to this day, as the company Heinrich Kaufmann & Söhne registered it in 1867 as a Deutsches Reich Gebrauchsmuster. The abbreviation "K55K" stands for Kaufmann, Hochstr. 55, Katze. The US soldiers simply called the knife Black Cat Knife, which is a bit inaccurate. While the folded sheet steel handle is completely powder coated in black, the stamped cat is hand painted in gold color, then as now. Since 1995, the knife has been faithfully built by Otter under the Mercator name, and its design has changed almost not a bit in over 140 years by now.
The backlock construction is a rather simple but extremely reliable design that can withstand harder use, but is still easy to use. The long blade is constructed of either stainless 1.4043 or - true to the original - non-stainless C75 carbon steel. The extremely flat design ensures that the Mercator is not a bit bulky in the pocket and is very easy to guide.
