Carpe Diem EDC "Carpe Diem" Coin
"When I designed my Original Carpe Diem Coin, I wanted a challenge coin that could be carried and given away to friends and family, that would remind the holder that time is fleeting, that death waits at the end for all of us, and that it is important to make the most of every day." Jim Wirth, founder of Carpe Diem EDC
The skull on the face of the coin symobolizes death. The gear wheel on the stin of the skull is found in all mechanical watches and is a symbol of the passing of time.
"Time passes" or "time flies" became more of a reality each day as Jim himself approached the age of 50."Death Waits" was his very real, if somber, reminder that at the end of all our days of life, there is only the certainty of death.
On the back side of his original Carpe Diem coin was a simple message, "Carpe Diem," meaning "Seize the day" and "Make your life extraordinary." Make the most of every day you have! Work hard but also celebrate well. Do good for others who are not as fortunate as you. Be present in the lives of friends and family.
For the text on the coins, Jim chose Latin:
"TEMPUS FUGIT" for "Time Passes" and "MEMENTO MORI" for "Remember Death." The reverse shows a "Tree of Life" with the words "CARPE DIEM" for "Seize the Day." Surrounding the tree of life are the words "FAC VITAM INCREDIBILEM" for "Make an incredible life for yourself" and "MEMENTO VIVERE" for "Remember to live". These two sayings are separated by roses, a subtle suggestion to take time, pause and smell the roses

Carpe Diem EDC - Carpe Noctem Coin
Given the overwhelming success of the Carpe Diem (Seize the Day!) coins, a companion coin that follows the same theme for the night cannot be missing.Carpe Diem means: make the most of today, because time is fleeting and tomorrow is uncertain. The Carpe Noctem (Make the most of the night!) coin has a slightly "darker" and more macabre design, reminding the owner of the following:
Time destroys all things ~ Tempus Edax Rerum
Death conquers all ~ Mors Vincit Omnia
It's how well you live that matters, not how long ~ Quam Bene Vivas Refert Non Quam Diu
With the instruction: Go and seize the night! ~ Carpe Noctem

Every Day Carry
For us this is more than just the house key and the cell phone. Our EDC consists of useful stuff like a pocket knife, flashlight, and personal items to remind us of something. And some things we carry with us simply because we find them beautiful.
It's the same with this coins. We keep them in our pockets and feel the embossed pattern when we put our hands in our pockets. Or we let a coin pass back and forth between our fingers while our thoughts flow. Sometimes such a coin is also a decision maker: we toss it in the air and let fate decide. Depending on which side it lands on, it determines the path we take.
Carpe Diem EDC are launching these great Viking Traveler Coins. Few peoples in Europe have taken on such incredibly ambitious journeys over the centuries as the Vikings. To commemorate these efforts, the Viking Traveler Coin features a Viking embossed design showing Odin on his eight-legged horse Sleipnir, accompanied by his spear Gungnir and the two ravens Huginn and Muninn.
On the other side is the Nordic Vegvisir, which shows you the way through the worst weather and the harshest conditions. Whether it's a faraway journey, a wild adventure or just a walk through the local forest, the Viking Traveler Coin is a constant companion that will show you the way through all of life's situations.
The runes on the front say: "Go forward with strength and speed" .On the back: "May your path be the right one".
The Carpe Diem Viking Traveler Coins are available in four different finishes:
999 Silver
Antique Nickel Silver
Antique Bronze Finish
Antique CopperBrass

Hats off!
An absolutely exceptional knife for Spyderco is the Stovepipe. Maybe you already know David Rydbom? His "Bill The Butcher" custom knife, served as a template for this very beefy-looking Spyderco folding knife. The gray titanium handle scales have an angular look and form a closed optical unit with the hollow ground Cleaver blade made of CPM 20CV. The stonewash finish on the blade and handle has been matched to create a monochromatic look that is somewhat reminiscent of the lunar surface.
A frame lock provides a secure closure for this knife. You also get a 3D milled pocket clip and David Rydborn's signature collar-backed pivot bolt on the Stovepipe. By the way, the Stovepipe is manufactured by Spyderco's own team in Taiwan. This manufacturing facility has a reputation for building the best Spydercos ever!
