Atelier Perceval - Le Francais
The classic from France
Assembled by hand
Extremely thinly ground
The Le Francais is already something of a modern classic of French knife culture and, along with the L08, is considered one of Perceval's most popular models.
Due to the thin, extremely cutting blade and the very universal handle, it is suitable for a whole range of cutting tasks that arise in everyday life. The knife is in no way unpleasantly conspicuous and even makes a really good picture in the restaurant. Thanks to the small leather case, it can be easily carried in your pocket without scratching the beautiful handle scales.
Although we are dealing with a thoroughly modern knife design, the roots of Le Francais go back to the 17th century. Already in this long past time, a very similar looking knife was used by the French farm workers.
The Le Francais is locked by a clean liner lock, which is wonderfully easy to unlock. The small nail hammer makes it very easy to open the knife two-handed. The wonderfully tapered blade, is very well suited for fine work and the edge on roughened buffalo leather, comes from the factory with an enormous sharpness. The Sandvik 19C27 steel used is highly resistant to rust and therefore completely unproblematic in connection with food.
All in all, you get a really great piece of French knife culture here, which will certainly take a special place in your collection.
The ebony version is also available with a corkscrew.

Sebenza 31
available in Large or Small
Reeve Integral Lock with ceramic ball on lockbar
Blade steel: CMP S35 VN
Clip Design: Off-set (on the 31 the clip now sits diagonally and no longer straight)
Actually, the Large Sebenza 31 should be available from the end of October. Unfortunately the delivery is delayed.
Chris Reeve is so busy that they are behind schedule. I'm afraid we won't get the Sebenza 31 until 2020. :(
When the end of the Sebenza 21 was proclaimed in June 2019 and its successor, the Sebenza 31, was introduced, this news went through the knife scene like a drumbeat. After all, new introductions of the manufacturer from Idaho are already very rare. Fortunately, Chris Reeve Knives have improved their recipe for success all in all only minimally but in crucial places, so that one can justifiably continue to speak of a Sebenza in the new 31 model.
First of all, the hole on the presentation side of the knife is now gone - something that many Reeve fans have long wished for. The slightly changed angle of the pocket clip, which now no longer presses on the lockbar, is also quickly noticeable to the trained eye.
Less obvious, however, is the revised lock of the Sebenza 31. Just as with the Umnumzaan or the Inkosi, a ceramic ball embedded in the lockbar now presses against the blade root. The hardness of this ball is in a barely measurable range, which prevents long-term wear at the contact point of the lockbar.
In order to improve the hand position of the Sebenza a bit, the grip recess on the front side was ground a bit differently. All in all, we can say: yes, the new model rightly bears the venerable name Sebenza and can easily tie in with the popular 21 series.
Small or Large?
Just like the predecessor model, both sizes are still available.
While the large Sebenza 31 is a truly full-blown work knife, the Small Sebenza remains the king of EDC pocket knives - the hand position continues to be great on the successor model. All of the features mentioned above can also be found in this smaller version of the Sebenza 31 - just in a slightly more compact and pocket-friendly form.

Pure elegance
Come on, you've already guessed the designer of this knife, right? Right, behind the design of the Goccia is, of course, Jens Anso. The line of this noble folding knife is clearly reminiscent of the legendary Neo - except that you don't have to sell a kidney here. The Goccia exudes a certain calmness and elegance, which is mainly due to the continuous swing and the organic lines.
The flipper tab fits casually and harmoniously into the design, but together with the ball bearings it also provides a lot of fun.
Other than that, all that remains to be said is: M390 steel, deep carry clip, Titanium handle scales, Anso design. What else to want here?

Burl birch
A new classic
Böker have dug into their own history and unearthed a true classic, which had been somewhat forgotten and lay dormant in an old metal box at the Solingen factory.
The new Barlow Prime is a tribute to the Barlow knives, which were imported to the USA from Europe as early as the 18th century. Thus, at the turn of the century, the first Barlows also appeared in Böker's program.
The Barlow Prime is clearly based on one of the knives of that time and is - just like in the past - completely manufactured in Solingen. Typical for this type of knife are the two bolsters made of solid stainless steel, which are a little shorter on this Barlow variant than on the American representatives of its kind. On the one hand, this has the advantage that the grain of the wood is better accentuated and on the other hand, the weight is reduced a little. For the handle material, Böker have opted for either a dark hornbeam or a Scandinavian burl birch, both of which give off a great look. So that the wood is less sensitive to moisture, the material was stabilized in a special process. The small shield with the Böker logo is also embedded in the handle.
The blade is made of Böhler N690 steel, which is typical for Böker. Thanks to its very good rust resistance, this steel is also ideally suited for cutting food. At the same time, the edge takes a high sharpness. Towards the tip, the blade was given a ricasso on the back of the blade, which makes for a racy but equally classic look. To prevent the blade from accidentally folding, the slipjoint spring engages another time at 90 degrees.
All in all, Böker have brought a great version of a true gentleman's knife classic back to life here. The Barlow Prime is a pocket knife that is just as versatile as it is elegant. Whether in the pocket of a pair of rough jeans or the watchpocket of a suit vest - with this knife you get a companion that cuts a great figure for any occasion.

Kai Shun Minamo Office Knife
The Shun Minamo series joins the premium class of kai knife series as an elegant understatement. Here the Japanese and the European are artfully combined. Tim Mälzer had the idea to develop a combination of the typical Japanese Santoku knife and the classic European chef's knife.
This fusion was considered the basis for the three blade shapes. The series is defined by a clear design language. A black handle in combination with the specially designed blade, which is evenly interspersed with a fine damask grain, make each knife look like a unique piece. The name of the series comes from this fine grain, which is reminiscent of a water surface (jap. Minamo) in the rain. The blade construction of hard core, sheathed in more flexible Damascus steel, ensures maximum sharpness, long edge retention and ideal performance.
