When we bring new brands into our lineup, it’s never just because they’re “hyped.” It’s because they bring something of their own – a clear design language, a mindset, a story.
Poikilo Blades is exactly that kind of brand.
Founded in 2021 by Andy and Vince Wang, Poikilo is the result of a transcontinental collaboration. Andy lives in the U.S. and is responsible for strategy and design vision.
Vince runs their own high-end manufacturing shop in China – a small but mighty facility focused on delivering outstanding precision and quality.
The name Poikilo comes from Ancient Greek: poikilos means “diverse,” “varied,” or “vividly creative.”
And yes – that fits perfectly. Because Poikilo isn’t here to push out cookie-cutter designs. It’s about innovation and technical finesse: hidden hardware, intricate milling, and refined geometries.
To be honest:
Many of their models can’t even be neatly categorized – and that’s a good thing.
Because if every knife looks the same, the EDC world loses its soul. Poikilo brings that soul back.
We chose the VK Zen not just for its clean lines, but for the story behind it.
It was designed by German maker Steven Kempa – better known in the community as Vulpex Knives – and he’s one of the most exciting creatives in today’s EDC scene.
His designs feel minimal and almost meditative – yet they follow a clear path, inspired by animal shapes, symbolism, and architectural clarity.
What makes it truly unique:
Each of his knives is created entirely in Fusion360 – digitally crafted with an eye for balance and functionality.
The VK Zen was a deeply personal project for Steven. It was born during a phase of reorientation – a symbol that peace and clarity are possible, even in turbulent times.
This mindset isn’t just a creative approach – it’s his personal philosophy.
“Less is more” – this guiding principle isn’t just between the lines, it’s tattooed on his forearm.
A clear statement of minimalism, consistently expressed through the VK Zen’s design.
You feel that idea in every detail:
From the soft contour of the handle to the evenly placed jimpings along the spine – and especially in the copper inlay on the thumb stud, which adds a warm, organic contrast to the clean titanium structure.
At first glance, the VK Zen feels minimal. Simple. Almost reserved.
But that’s exactly where its strength lies – every detail has been deliberately chosen.
The blade is crafted from premium M398 steel, paired with a precisely machined titanium handle.
Everything is milled to perfection and balanced down to the last gram.
A hallmark of Poikilo: the hidden hardware.
No visible screws – just a clean, seamless look that feels almost organic in hand. It’s not just about aesthetics – it’s about experience.
The knife opens via a thumb stud, accentuated by a small copper inlay – a warm, vivid contrast to the cool titanium.
This detail doesn’t just catch the eye – it carries meaning: copper is traditionally associated with warmth, life, and connection.
One of the most striking features?
The five tiny holes along the spine of the blade – evenly spaced, each just 1 mm in diameter.
They’re not just jimpings. They’re symbolic: representing the four classical elements – Earth, Water, Fire, Air – and a fifth: what many traditions refer to as Aether, consciousness, or life energy.
Run your thumb across them and you’ll feel it – a nearly meditative motion.
A moment of connection – with the knife, the moment, and yourself.
To us, that’s what separates a great EDC tool from one that carries true meaning.
In a world that’s moving faster every day – where tools are often reduced to pure performance and efficiency – the VK Zen reminds us that there’s another way.
Yes, it cuts.
Yes, it works.
But it also does something else: it brings calmness – to your hand, and to your mind.
We’ve seen a lot of knives.
A lot of good ones.
But only a few that quietly sparked something deeper in us.
The VK Zen is one of them.
So if you’re not just looking for a tool – but for a daily companion with presence and purpose –
take a closer look at the Zen.
