Deadman Design Elixir The man behind Deadman Design is Matt. He’s a firefighter by trade and grew up in Texas, working in his family’s construction business. There was always a pocket knife in his jeans, and Matt openly admits he’s used his knives as a pry bar or a hammer more than once. You shouldn’t try that at home, but that exact experience went into the Elixir. To build his ideal knife, he taught himself CAD and kept pulling prototypes off his 3D printer until the shape was right. Next came production prototypes with Reate. After one long year and a successful Kickstarter campaign, the Elixir was finished, the brand’s first production knife. Deadman Design is still a garage project in the best sense: Matt and his wife Madi work out of a small room above the garage. The compound ground blade has a flat grind up front that handles the rougher jobs. Towards the back, a hollow grind gives you fine, controlled cuts. The forward finger notch brings your index finger closer to the edge when things need to be precise. The steel is Vanax. It relies on nitrogen instead of carbon, which makes it practically rustproof. Salty harbour air, rain or a sweaty summer day in your pocket won’t bother it. Handle and hardware are all titanium, and the milled clip has a hidden screw. The Elixir is made by Reate, and you can see it in the fit and finish straight away. Choose from the following finishes: Sandblasted Stonewashed Blackwash DLC

Titanium integral frame lock – one grip, one block, no compromises Magnetic inlay – swapped in seconds, no tools needed M390, 8 cm blade, 130 g – the folder for every day You know that feeling? You put your folder on the table at the end of the day and somehow everything looks a little too much like yesterday. That's exactly where the Arison Street gets interesting. The lines come from Sam Tran, better known as raven_the_pirate from your Instagram feed. Sam has been photographing knives for the scene for years and has a sharp eye for what proportions actually work. Ramon Chaves brought it to life in his Red Label series: grip body and lockbar are milled from a single block of titanium, making the frame lock an integral part of the handle. So far, so Chaves. But flip the knife over to the show side. The titanium inlay is held in place by magnets only. A quick press on the end of the handle, lift it off, done – no screwdriver, no fumbling with Torx bits on the kitchen table. Suddenly the surface is yours: a different finish, a different material, a colour that matches the rest of your gear. Understated stonewash during the week, something louder for the weekend. A knife that grows with your setup. The knife itself: M390 drop point blade in stonewash, just over 8 cm long, around 130 g, just under 11 cm closed. Fits in any pocket – and still turns heads.
Micarta handle scales on steel liners Liner lock with Elmax blade – HRC 60–62 Sam Tran design, Chaves Blue Label DNA, made by Reate The Arison Street Blue Label is the Micarta liner lock version of the collaboration between Sam Tran and Chaves Knives – manufactured by Reate. Micarta handle scales on steel liners – and that changes the feel of the knife more than you might expect. Titanium has that cool, almost clinical elegance. Micarta is warmer, more direct, a little more grounded. If you think of your folder as a tool first, you might actually prefer this one. The liner lock keeps the blade securely in position – sturdy enough for everyday use, compact enough to forget it's there. No compromises on steel either: Elmax from Europe, HRC 60–62, holds an edge well and is straightforward to resharpen. Sam Tran's design, Chaves Blue Label DNA, made by Reate. Just at a price where you don't have to think twice.

"Umnumzaan" — Zulu for "Sir" or "Mister". The Boss. We won't find a better name for this knife. Chris and Anne Reeve started in 1984 in a one-car garage in Durban, South Africa. Just the two of them, with one clear goal: to build the best knife possible. In 1989 they moved to Boise, Idaho — and the Zulu names came with them: Sebenza for work, Umnumzaan for respect. Today Anne runs the company, with her son Tim on board as well. The facility is still in Boise. The Umnumzaan is the big brother of the Sebenza — more presence in hand, a beefier pivot, and an updated Reeve Integral Lock with overtravel stop. The CPM MagnaCut blade is available in your choice of Drop Point or Tanto, both in a stonewash finish. The hollow grind is cleanly executed on both blade shapes. The 6Al4V titanium handle is glass blasted — a process where fine glass beads are blasted across the surface, leaving a matte, slightly textured finish that feels completely different from polished or sandblasted titanium: more grip, warmer in hand, and visually very calm. Delivered with tools, grease (fluorinated), and a microfibre cloth. Made in Boise, Idaho. (pleas note photos are showing the sandblast version)
