From military tool to practical everyday helper
Did you know that lanyards originally come from the military? As early as the 15th century, French soldiers used so-called “lanières”: straps to securely attach weapons or signal whistles to the uniform. Whether in the cavalry or the navy: a solid hanger was essential for a quick draw in an emergency. Later, colored, often artfully knotted lanyards were also used to denote rank and unit. This blend of symbolic power and functionality has remained with the lanyard to this day – even though over the centuries it has evolved from a military tool into a practical everyday helper. By now, it’s indispensable in the EDC world.
