Dutch Knife Exhibition 2026 – Why It’s Worth the Trip to the Netherlands
There are a few dates each year that knife enthusiasts should definitely mark on their calendar. The Dutch Knife Exhibition is absolutely one of them.
On April 11, 2026, the community gathers at Expo Houten in the Netherlands. A full day dedicated to knives, design, craftsmanship, and conversations with people who truly understand why a clean detent or a perfectly ground blade can make you stop and smile.
Not Just Looking at Knives — Experiencing Them
Knives look great. In photos. In videos. And even more in real life.
But what you can’t feel online is how a knife actually feels in your hand.
- How does the handle really sit in your grip?
- How is the weight distributed?
- How’s the walk and talk?
You stroll from table to table, pick knives up, feel the weight, the shapes, the materials — and discover work from makers that might never have caught your eye online, but in person instantly give you that “oh wow” feeling.
That’s exactly what shows like the DKE are made for.
Extremely Interesting for Makers, Too
Collectors aren’t the only ones who get their money’s worth here. The DKE is also a great place for knifemakers.
- Discover new materials
- Compare handle concepts
- Examine manufacturing details up close
- Talk shop with fellow makers
And you’ll often come across knives from makers who barely have an online presence — true newcomers or hidden talents you might never have discovered otherwise.
Knife Awards & Discoveries
The show also hosts the Knife Awards — a stage for outstanding craftsmanship and remarkable designs.
You’ll see knives that never made it to social media. One-offs. Creative experiments. Work from newcomers who are just starting to build a name for themselves.
With more than 100 exhibitors and over 1,000 visitors, the variety is huge. And somewhere between all those tables, there’s almost certainly a knife waiting to give you that special moment:
“Okay… wow.”
21 Editions of Dutch Knife Exhibition
The Dutch Knife Exhibition has been held for 21 editions and has grown steadily over the years.
The Netherlands may not have a traditional knife city like Solingen or Maniago — but the knife, outdoor, and EDC scene there is massive and incredibly passionate.
Since last year, the show has been organized by our good friends Sander and Willem — Willem being a knifemaker from the Netherlands himself. Two true knife enthusiasts who know exactly what matters when it comes to creating a great show for the community.
Is the Trip to the Netherlands Worth It?
Short answer: absolutely.
The Netherlands are easy to reach from Germany — perfect for a weekend trip.
One day at the show. Countless impressions. Great conversations. And knives you can actually handle instead of just scrolling past.
Even if you head home without buying anything, you’ll almost always leave with fresh inspiration and new ideas.
