It’s dark in the tent, your pouch is lying somewhere next to you, and the original zip pull on the slider is about the size of a chewed-off fingernail. You end up switching on the headlamp and waking half the campsite. That’s exactly the moment zip pull beads were made for.
The idea is so simple you briefly wonder why you didn’t have one ages ago. A piece of paracord through the bead, the loop through the eyelet on the slider, melt the ends – done. From then on you’ve got something to properly grab hold of instead of a bit of stamped metal.
Glow or go dark
The glow in the dark version is the answer to the tent situation above. A few seconds of daylight will do it, a quick sweep with a torch is faster – after that your zipper sits there as a green dot in the dark and you just reach for it. If you’d rather your setup gave nothing away, take the all black version. Same job, just invisible. Grey man instead of lighthouse.
Both versions come as a twin pack. One for the pouch, one for the backpack – or you do what most people do: the first one goes on your favourite piece of gear, and two weeks later the second one is hanging off your daughter’s pencil case, because she thinks it looks cooler than you do.
