Chris Reeve Knives Mim Pocket Clip and Screw

Chris Reeve Knives MIM Pocket Clip – Precision Meets Innovation

The mere fact that this clip exists is newsworthy. After all, new products from Chris Reeve Knives (CRK) are extremely rare and only enter serial production after very long development and testing phases. What makes this clip special – besides its subtle and truly elegant design – is the manufacturing process. Instead of a conventionally bent or even milled clip, you get a clip produced using MIM technology (Metal Injection Molding). While this process itself isn’t new, it still plays only a minor role in modern knife production.

A short excursion into the world of metal processing

Metal Injection Molding (MIM) is a process used to produce very small and complex metal parts – similar to plastic injection molding, but with metal.

In this case, fine titanium powder is mixed with a binder (usually made of wax and polymer) until it forms a viscous mass. This mixture is then injected into a mold that defines the shape of the part. Afterwards, the piece is heated to remove the binder – a step known as debinding.

What remains is a porous titanium part that is not yet solid. It is then sintered at very high temperatures, just below titanium’s melting point: the individual powder particles fuse together, the part shrinks slightly, and becomes extremely dense and strong. The result is a precise and durable titanium component that’s nearly as tough as forged titanium – yet significantly more affordable and capable of much more complex geometries.

The new MIM Clip by Chris Reeve Knives

Each package includes the matching stainless steel screw, allowing you to install your clip in seconds. Don’t be surprised: tolerances at Chris Reeve Knives are so tight that the clip fits with exceptional precision.

A true piece of engineering craftsmanship – innovative in production, beautifully detailed, and unmistakably CRK: uncompromising in quality and precision.
