Automatic Ernie

Ernest Emerson is a living legend and is counted among the absolute forefathers of the tactical folding knife. The history of the Close Quarter Combat knife is exciting in that Emerson developed this knife for very special purposes. In the mid-1980s, a small group of underwater welders approached Ernest Emerson with a request to build a folding knife with some specific design features for them. The result is the now legendary CQC6. In the course of the collaboration, it turned out that these gentlemen were by no means industrial divers, but members of the then still young Navy Seals groups. After several years of further development, the handmade CQC6 became the series production of the CQC7.

Protech was allowed to build an exclusive automatic version of this classic, naturally to Ernest Emerson's exact specifications. The handle offers a secure but universal hand position, making it difficult for the knife to slip out of your hand while working. The design of the blade is particularly interesting: as is typical for Emerson Knives, it is a so-called chisel grind. Here, only one side of the blade is ground, while the other side remains flat. The idea behind this is that the blade can be brought back to sharpness almost anywhere and even with the most rudimentary methods. In addition, this grind, together with the tanto point, offers incredible stability, which may well be necessary due to the requirements of the Navy Seals. As with the expensive custom Emersons, Protech uses 154CM steel for the automatic version, which has also proven itself over decades. If you are looking for a real piece of knife history, then a CQC7Automatic should not be missing from your collection.
